Blog Flash 2012: Day 24

This is the twenty-fourth entry out of the thirty I'm attempting.  It is part of a series of thirty entries so I hope you'll read each daily post to find out what happens in the end.
Thank you for reading!

 24. In The Woods

Alisa lost her handle, sending a dozen apples tumbling to the ground. “Oh, bother!”
Miss Charleston assisted her, ignoring the fall of her bonnet from atop her flaxen curls till they were done.
“Thank you.”
“Luckily, the bruised ones bake better.” She fished through her basket and handed Alisa a jam pot. “The help is in the woods about produce. This is far superior to Hayworth’s jam. Add those apples and you’ll have a perfect Normandy tart.”
“How do you know that?”
“I paid attention as a child.” She paused, took a shaky breath, then said “Good day, Miss Sheffield.”
